Spain has long been a popular tourist destination and it's capital Madrid has seen a huge portion of this interest. Aside from being a large city on it's own (Madrid's urban sprawl includes over five million residents), Madrid has huge numbers of tourists - over fifty million - fly in through it's International airport each year. Madrid has many sight-seeing hotspots that are well worth visiting, such as the Golden Museum Triangle (Museo del Prado, Reina Sofia National Museum and Art Center and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Art), the Palacio Real, and the Puerta del Sol; and is also ideal for using as a base for exploring the surrounding region. Within easy driving distance of the city of Madrid is Aranjuez (UNESCO World Heritage listed), the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, and the cities of Toledo, Segovia and Chinchon.
